Step into the wonderful world of the Wizard of Oz with OZ: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting by Andrew Kolb, a vibrant setting designed for modern tabletop RPGs, particularly optimised for D&D 5e. Inspired by L. Frank Baum's iconic series of books and films, this setting transforms Oz into a bustling metropolis ripe for exploration.

Kolb's take on Oz surprised and delighted me, challenging my assumptions about the story's depth and complexity. Packed with rich lore, diverse characters, and hidden secrets, Oz offers a whole lot more than your typical tabletop RPG setting. As a fan of OSR-style games, I found it to be a treasure trove of adventure possibilities, complete with detailed maps, unique locations, and even a monorail and an underground train system.

Kolb is an illustrator by trade, and he has made the book a work of art, with a stunning blue cover adorned with green foil and colour-coded sections for easy navigation. Inside, readers are greeted with beautiful illustrations and meticulously crafted details that bring Oz to life. Whether you're new to role-playing or a seasoned veteran, the setting offers endless opportunities for storytelling and exploration.

At the heart of OZ lies its pointcrawl adventure map, dividing the land into four distinct regions: Munchkinland, Winkie Country, Quadling Country, and the Emerald Centre. Each region is teeming with vibrant cultures, fascinating characters, and exciting encounters, making every journey down the yellow brick road a memorable experience.

One of the standout features of OZ is its pre-made 3rd level characters like a Clockwork Boxer, The Ringmaster, and Magic Bones. Even if the pre-made characters are not a player’s vibe, they give the game master a great template for guiding them to create characters thematic of Oz. Along with the setting's detailed NPCs and factions, these pre-made characters add depth and complexity to a campaign, whether you're playing D&D 5e or another RPG system.

Overall, OZ: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting is a must-have for any RPG enthusiast who loves the fantastical, especially the world of Oz. Kolb's passion for Oz shines through in every page, offering both players and game masters a rich and immersive experience. Whether you're exploring dense and wild forests full of ancient ruins and winged monkeys or navigating the bustling streets of the Emerald Citadel, Oz is sure to spark your imagination and inspire countless adventures.
